A series of 20 powerful earthquakes struck Japan's Noto region, off the western coast of Honshu, on January 1, 2024. The quakes triggered a tsunami warning and caused damage to homes, infrastructure, and power lines.
At least 48 people have been reported dead (as of 2nd January 2024).
Power outages continued to affect more than 33,000 homes across the prefecture, according to Hokuriku Electric Power Company.
